Prof. John Scully
Title: Exploring Corrosion and Passivation in Multi-Principal Element Alloys
John R. Scully is the Charles Henderson Chaired Professor of Materials Science and Engineering, Co-director of the Center for Electrochemical Science and Engineering at University of Virginia. He is the past MSE Department Chair. He has been devoted to research and education in corrosion focusing on the effects of materials structure, composition, heterogeneities and physical conditions on corrosion of novel advanced materials, substrates under coatings, as well as legacy materials. He utilizes a variety of complimentary in-situ and ex-situ local and global test methods and collaborates with atomistic and continuum modelers to understand corrosion processes across a range of length and time scales. He has sponsored and mentored over 150 Ph.D., M.S., and undergraduate students as well as 17 post-doctoral scholars, including many under-represented minorities. He is a Fellow of the Electrochemical Society, the National Association of Corrosion Engineers, The British Corrosion Institute, and the American Society for Metals. He serves as the Technical Editor in Chief of CORROSION, The Journal of Science and Engineering.
